For couples (or birth doulas) who want an easy, tech-y way to track contractions during labor, here is a nifty little application for the iPhone called Contraction Master. At 99 cents, it is a great little tool for mamas. No pens, paper or math skills necessary. All you need to do is press a pretty pink button at the start of of the contraction, and then press the same button to pause the timer.

This nifty program tracks the start and end times of the contraction, the duration and frequency between the start of one contraction to the next. You can exit out of the program, take a phone call, check your email, and if you return to Contraction Master it continues the current log. You can even look at the history of the contractions and email the log to someone (hmmm… to the doula, perhaps?). This tool is perfect for birth doulas to use as well.

I tested it out and it looks like a helpful little tool. My only suggestion would be to turn off the Auto-Lock function, especially if it’s password protected.

  1. I love sharing contractionmaster.com with my CBE classes and doula clients. It usually keeps that partner in an active role during the early stages of labor. When I arrive to the laboring mom’s home, the partners always like to show me the progress that they tracked. It would be great if they get and application for Blackberry phones.

  2. Shayla – Thanks so much for sharing you and your clients’ experiences with Contraction Master. That’s awesome!
